Hi again,

Hi everyone, sorry the holidays came and took up too much of my time. I will be back to regular posting again.

I have opened this blog up to a little bit more then just education and philosophies but also apartment living, organizing and decluttering.

I think clutter and being more organized is also important for students, parents of kids, and schooling. Everyone needs to learn to be a little bit more organized.

Alternative schools

I am going to start posting about different types of education but I am going to start with different philosphies and theories of education in order to provide background and context information in order to help explain different forms of education.

What about Homeschooling?

I know....I know.....

I want to be a teacher, but I still believe in certain cases homeschooling is the correct choice.

I believe what is in the best interest for the family and most importantly the child should be considered.

Education is extremely personal and there are so many factors that influence education.
I think education needs to be a personal choice, and that the child must be able to learn.

But what kind of homeschooling? There is no ONE way, no correct method, again method can vary as much as type of school because there is no one size fits all method. Education is not a one fit mold, that every child fits into. Instead education is a process and a system that varies.

Is education forgetting the child?

I wonder if our education system is forgetting about the child who should be the center or focus of education?

There is so much emphasis placed on standardized testing, scores, money, and the politics of education, that many have forgotten about the child.

What about the child? And how the child learns? Shouldn't the child have a say?

Preschools

What about preschools that are terribly academic, I think we are pushing younger and younger kids to know more. They are expected before kindgerarten to read and write, which is unreasonable. The pressure on kids is huge. School can't do it all, teachers can't do it all.

If kids are pushed to hard, maybe you will harm the child. A child pushed to read to early may never enjoy reading because it is forced on them.

Instead we need to realize that preschools play a vital role--such as social and live lessons ---ex. sharing, preparation for school ---ex. routine and schedule of school.

Preschools need to step down.

Parents and educators need to realize they are still kids, who want to play, explore, and get to know themselves.

Alternative schooling

Although, I want to be a teacher I can understand why some parents choose to homeschool. And I will definately say I don't believe that public school is perfect or for everychild. I wonder if we need a better monitoring system tho.

More important is the idea of alternative education such as Waldorf and Montessori. I will not say one is better then the other but there are real positives and negatives to all education. I think more than anything we need to discuss what education system will work best for each student.

We need to make education fit for children.

I do like the idea of self-explatory play and kids being able to self discover right from wrong.

Education system

I think we need to have a discussion about the fate and direction of education.

The focus needs to return to the child. After all it is about educating the child. The child should be the priority. I think standardized tests do not accurately measure the child.

Education should be adaptable to match and fit the child not the other way around, where the child is forced to fit into the educational mold.

Education system

What about those who don't fit in the schooling 'mold'. I have been learning alot lately about schooling and about alternative schools, which often are very expensive because they are not supported by the government. Not every kids needs to learn the same way, nor do they. I am a visual learner, so graphs, charts, pictures mean more to me then words. I use graphic organizers to organize my material.

Another point lately has been extremely academic preschools. What about letting kids be kids? I really think explatory play can lead to learning without learning in a vaccuum. Kids need to learn through self-correcting toys, so given a chance to learn on their own. What about social lessons, like sharing?

Parents and kids should have more options for schooling. No single school will work for every child. Choice is key and allowing the child to thrive.

This shouldn't be an issue of money, or burarcracy but instead what is right for this particular child!
